The switch is the rhythm and treble one I have turned all 4 knobs up to full and played over all 3 pickups and to be honest I cant tell that much difference is there anything I can do to check they all work or have I done something wrong?I have just bought a black beauty les paul custom (Epiphone) and Im not convinced the switch is working?
If they weren't working they would be silent or just hum.
The neck pickup will have a ';warm sound.'; The middle selection will have a more trebly sound. The bridge pickup will have a thicker attack. These tones are most noticeable when played through a completely clean channel on a good, tube-driven amp.
If you are trying to play through a small, solid state amp, chances are that you aren't going to hear much of a difference (especially with the distortion full on)I have just bought a black beauty les paul custom (Epiphone) and Im not convinced the switch is working?
Hi, if they all sound the same, something is wrong with how the pickups are wired to the switch. You should get a much brighter sound out of the Treble position which (when wired correctly) should play with just the bridge pickup active. The Rhythm position should play the neck pickup only and have a much fuller sound, but with a lower tone.
To check and see if they are correctly wired (without opening the guitar), switch to Treble and then tap the pickup near the bridge with the tip of your guitar pick. You should hear a ';click'; from your amp. Then tap the neck pickup with the pick, if you hear a ';click'; again with the same loudness and it is indeed wired incorrectly.
This is easily remedied with a soldering iron and schematic, but if you just bought it, take it back and have it either replaced or repaired.
