With all the hair dyes, highlights, cosmetic surgery, facial piercings, colored contacts, etc, are we saying that the way people look naturally is not enough for them to look their best and they NEED to be altered?
does this make us shallow?Do we as a society put too little emphasis on natural beauty and too much emphasis on beauty ';enhancements';?
Our on brains have us programed for certain things.
Clear skin, healthy weight/ height ratio, long hair, hair color (denotes youth) obvious sexual maturity are all hard wired into our brains.
We naturally find these things appealing. The LEVEL of what is appealing is right off the charts to what is natural.
yes- teeth that are not black or brown are considered healthy- and we naturally want to see white teeth- but the level of white that is currently considered beautiful is unnatural and unhealthy for teeth. Teeth have a natural yellow tint I- but that tint is now considered ugly and it they must be white as snow.
They do not need to be altered- but when we are looking at what levels of these stimuli - they are completely off where they need to be.
There is a difference between a face that is scarred and pocked with disease, and someone With a couple of zits- but now that couple of zits are unacceptable
There is a difference between a mouth full of black, brown and missing teeth, and someone who's teeth have a slight yellowish tint- but now that tint is unacceptable
There is a difference between hair that is frizzed, broken, thin and brittle due to poor nutrition and stress on the body, and hair that is just thin and brown- but that now that thin brown hair must be colored, and curled to fake volume.
Our scales of what is ';Healthy'; is out of whack because the conditions that would signal a weak individual have been taken out of society- and all we have left to judge people is ';normal'; and '; above normal';
Guess what the new ';ugly'; is?Do we as a society put too little emphasis on natural beauty and too much emphasis on beauty ';enhancements';?
i think it depends on what length you go to. highlights and maekup are ok, and cosmetic surgery is ok if you are obese or just lost weight and nned to lose the skin. hair dying ok i guess, but getting a nose job when youre already good looking, botox and colored contacts are NOT ok at all.
No because people with natural beauty don't do these things which is why they have natural beauty.
Plastic surgery aside, if you aren't naturally beautiful to begin with, no amount of enhancements will make you beautiful.
yeah, look at all the antm cycles...
when they do the makeovers it's always weaves, extensions, and heavy makeup...
ppl should really enhance their natural beuty..
its not that natural beauty isnt good enough, there are just products that emphasize your features that make them stand out more and look good too.
I don't know, I've never seen a woman not wear makeup.
It makes us sheep..........as we strive to become what the media deems to be beautiful...............
